Obituary Published in the Charleston Gazette on Dec. 31, 2008: William "Bill" C. Blizzard, 92 of Ripley, passed away Dec. 29, 2008, at Jackson General Hospital in Ripley after a sudden illness. He was born Dec. 16, 1916, in Eskdale, a son to the late William and Rae Cruickshank Blizzard. He was best known for his work as a journalist and photographer, but was also a member of UMWA and served in World War II in the Air Force. There will be a memorial service Saturday, January 3, 2008, 10 a.m. at the West Virginia Cultural Center. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Charleston. |

William "Bill" C. Blizzard was the son of William "Bill" Blizzard and Rae Cruickshank.
Blizzard worked as a photographer and features writer for the Charleston Gazette for 12 years.
A series of articles Blizzard wrote in the 1950s formed the basis for "When Miners March," a history of the origins and growth of the United Mine Workers and labor struggles published by Appalachian Community Services Press in 2004. The book is scheduled for a second printing in 2009.
