Obituary Published in the Charleston Gazette on Dec. 31, 2008:

William "Bill" C. Blizzard, 92 of Ripley, passed away Dec. 29, 2008, at Jackson General Hospital in Ripley after a sudden illness.

He was born Dec. 16, 1916, in Eskdale, a son to the late William and Rae Cruickshank Blizzard. He was best known for his work as a journalist and photographer, but was also a member of UMWA and served in World War II in the Air Force.

There will be a memorial service Saturday, January 3, 2008, 10 a.m. at the West Virginia Cultural Center. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Charleston.

William "Bill" C. Blizzard was the son of William "Bill" Blizzard and Rae Cruickshank.

Blizzard worked as a photographer and features writer for the Charleston Gazette for 12 years.

A series of articles Blizzard wrote in the 1950s formed the basis for "When Miners March," a history of the origins and growth of the United Mine Workers and labor struggles published by Appalachian Community Services Press in 2004. The book is scheduled for a second printing in 2009.
