War of 1812 Brigadier General, 6th & 8th New Jersey Governor. A veteran of both the Revolutionary War and War of 1812. Appointed Brigadier General by Pres. James Madison after the start of the War of 1812. Spent most of his enlistment overseeing training of troops, and never saw combat.
