Narrative

ORLANDO, Fla. - Roy M. Blizzard, 94, of Orlando, Fla., formerly of Charleston, W.Va., passed away Jan. 29, 2004, in Florida South Hospital, Orlando.

He was born Aug. 1, 1909, at Greencastle, W.Va., the son of the late Fredrick Charles and Leona Miller Blizzard. He was also preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Lillian Thompson Blizzard; a sister, Toy; and brothers, Paul, Gordon, John, Bill and Russell.

Roy was employed by Union Carbide Corporation at its South Charleston plant as a chemical operator and, subsequently, area foreman from 1929 until his retirement in 1972, with the exception of transferring to the Union Carbide plant in Louisville, Ky., during World War II. Roy also operated his own home improvement business from 1947 to 1954.

Roy had a wonderful sense of humor. He was an avid golfer, winning several local, city and county championships and placing high in several state competitions. He also was an avid bird hunter. He enjoyed traveling and loved his family. He was a Christian.

He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by a sister, Elsie Blizzard Williams; a daughter, Mary Lucille Motley of Richmond, Va.; three sons and their wives, Roy M. Jr. and Mary of Elkview, W.Va., Edsel and Linda of Reed Spring, Mo., John Dudley of Louisville; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Memorial service will be held at a later date.
