Narrative

While in Elyria, Martin worked in the Clauss Shear Factory in Elyria until August of 1887 when the owner, John Clauss, moved the plant to Fremont, Ohio to be near an accessible, abundant supply of natural gas which had recently been discovered. The gas was ideally suited to fuel the furnaces for the company’s forges and foundry.
